About

Kyle McKillop is a poet and public school teacher. His poetry and essays have appeared in a variety of print and digital publications, including his chapbook What I Will Do for Attention and Sustenance: Writers from BC & Beyond on the Subject of Food.

Kyle has featured widely at reading series across the Lower Mainland, including Edge of the Page, the Garden Plot Reading Series, In Their Words, LitFest New West, Locution, Poetry in the Park, Poetic Justice, Poetry Meets Art, Poetry New Westminster, Spoken Ink, Surrey Muse (including a streaming session), World Poetry, and the Writers International Network Autumn Dance. He won third place in the 2022 Vera Manuel Award for Poetry contest; he also won first place in non-fiction in RCLAS’s 2014 Write On! Contest as well as receiving second place for fiction and honourable mention for poetry. He won a round of the Malahat Review’s 2016 Twitter contest, Grow Your Own Sonnet.

Kyle graduated from the University of British Columbia’s Optional-Residency MFA program, completing a thesis in poetry. Kyle is past president of the BC Teachers of English Language Arts and previously served as president of the Surrey English Teachers’ Association and the Royal City Literary Arts Society.
